Malans Peak via Taylor Canyon
Started early to beat the heat. The lower canyon was dry and busy with runners. Above the first switchbacks the trail narrows and the oak gives way to maple and fir.
The spring at the upper bench was running, but slowly. I filtered a litre and carried it to the summit. The final ridge was clear of snow, with only a few drifts on the north side.
On the summit the wind was strong from the south-west. I stayed for twenty minutes, then descended the same way. The exposed section below the peak was hotter than expected by mid-morning.
Note: the upper spring is seasonal. Do not rely on it in late summer.
